OUC Recognized as Leading Solar Energy Provider

Jul 30, 2020

Utility plans to increase solar generation to 270.5 megawatts by 2023

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, OUC—The Reliable One has been recognized by Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) as a leading solar energy provider in the Southeast. Named a ‘SunRiser’ in the organization’s Solar in the Southeast annual report, OUC is the only municipal utility to receive the designation this year.

In June, OUC added 108.5 megawatts of green energy to its generation portfolio as two new solar farms began operations. As a result of the partnership with the Florida Municipal Solar Project, OUC now draws 100% of the 74.5 megawatts of energy generated by the Taylor Creek Solar Energy Center in east Orange County and 46% – or 34 megawatts – of the 74.5-megawatt Harmony Solar Energy Center in St. Cloud.

“To be recognized as a leading solar energy provider for the second year in a row – and on the heels of our new solar farms starting operations – is significant for OUC,” said Clint Bullock, General Manager & CEO. “Our plan is to increase our solar generation capacity to 270.5 megawatts – enough power for 50,000 typical Florida homes – by 2023, and we are well on our way.”

The designation represents utilities that demonstrate the highest solar ambition as measured by forecasted solar growth on a watts-per-customer basis over a four-year period, 2019 to 2023. SACE’s annual report covers seven states and includes approximately 400 utilities.

SACE is a regional nonprofit organization that promotes responsible energy choices to ensure clean, safe, and healthy communities throughout the Southeast. As a leading voice for energy policy, SACE focuses on transforming the way energy is produced and consumed in our region.
