SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 – ORLANDO, FL – As of 11 a.m., Friday, September 30, OUC has restored power to 73% of customers who experienced an outage – reducing the total number out from its peak of 97,560 down to 26,458. Our crews worked all day yesterday and restarted efforts this morning at 6 a.m. to assess damage, remove trees and restore power while safely navigating the significant and historic flooding in Orlando. Customers still experiencing an outage can report it by calling 407-423-9018.
Yesterday, out of an abundance of caution following two separate water main breaks – one at Misty Oaks Apartment Complex and the other at Asbury Avenue between Cole Road and Virginia Drive – a total of 52 customers were placed on a precautionary boil water alert.
OUC is committed to and focused on the quick and safe restoration of power to our service area. Nearly 300 OUC and mutual aid crew members will continue assessments and restorations today and through the weekend.
Critical customers such as hospitals, wastewater plants, fire, police stations and other emergency locations have all been restored. Next, repairs are being made to main distribution lines that will restore power to the largest number of customers in the quickest manner possible. Given the amount of flooding throughout Orlando, it’s important to remember that electric current passes very easily through water, and it’s imperative to stay away from pooled water that may be impacted by downed lines or other electrical equipment.
A system-wide Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) will not be available until later today or early Saturday at the latest.
