OUC, OCPS partnership teaches importance of water conservation through art
ORLANDO, Fla. – Nathaniel “Nate” D., a fourth grade student at Arbor Ridge K-8 School, has been chosen as the winner of the OUC 2023 Water Color Project calendar cover contest. Nate’s artwork, “Teamwork keeps us hydrated,” will be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar. This is the second consecutive year that an Arbor Ridge student’s artwork has graced the cover.
OUC customers and the community voted for the calendar’s cover artwork. Nate’s artwork received more than 246 reactions, 11 shares and 14 comments in the contest held on OUC’s Facebook page.
Fourth- and fifth-grade Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) students submitted 111 water conservation-themed drawings in the 2023 Water Color Project – Calendar Contest. OUC employees narrowed the entries to the 13 that best represented the Water Color Project’s message. The public got the final say on which one of the 13 would adorn the cover, with “Teamwork Keeps Us Hydrated” claiming the most interactions on OUC’s Facebook page, from Nov. 14-17. Each of the 12 months on the calendar will feature a finalist.
Since 2006, OUC’s Water Color Project has taught future generations about water conservation and the importance of this natural resource through art. Students receive a lesson on water conservation and then develop artwork, messages and slogans for submission for OUC’s annual Water Color Project calendar. OUC and OCPS are partners in the program.
Over the past 15 years, more than 100 elementary schools and over 25,000 fourth and fifth graders have participated in the annual calendar contest.
Free calendars will be available beginning January 3, 2023, for pick up at OUC’s Reliable Plaza location, 100 W. Anderson Street, Orlando, 32801, during regular business hours.
